A multi-agency police pursuit across Miami-Dade and Broward counties ended with the apprehension of two armed-robbery suspects — one of whom was taken to a hospital after being shot by police, authorities said Thursday.

Kevin Gardner, 32, a felon from Plantation, and Keiandre Davis, 20, of Fort Lauderdale, were taken into custody late Wednesday after a pursuit that involved dozens of police cars and at least one law-enforcement helicopter, officials said.

Thursday afternoon, Gardner was held without bond at Broward’s Main Jail on one count of robbery with a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon and one count of using or displaying a firearm during a felony, records show.

Police did not say whether Davis was the injured suspect. He, too, faces armed-robbery charges, police said.

The events began Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, when Gardner and Davis met two people for a drug deal and robbed them at gunpoint, police said.

They had a shotgun and an AR-15 assault rifle when they got out of their car for the transaction, according to Det. Travis Mandell, Fort Lauderdale police spokesman. They fired a shot to frighten the victims, rifled through the victims’ pockets, stole $1,800 and drove away, officials said.

One of the robbery victims got into a car, followed the men into Miami-Dade County and obtained their tag number, police said. At one point, the robbers shot at the person following them, police said. The victim, who was not struck by the gunfire, met up with law-enforcement officers, and a police pursuit followed, officials said.

Miami-Dade police saw the suspects’ vehicle on Northwest 135th Street just west of Interstate 95, according to Hollywood police Lt. Diana Pereira. Police followed the car north on the expressway to Hollywood Boulevard, where the two men stopped and ran from their vehicle, police said.

One suspect was quickly captured, Pereira said. The other ran into nearby Stan Goldman Park while being chased by officers from Miami-Dade and the city of Opa-locka. He was taken into custody and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he was treated for gunshot wounds, Pereira said.

Hollywood police are investigating the police-involved shooting. The agency is awaiting the results of ballistics tests before disclosing who shot the suspect, Pereira said.

Both suspects have had prior run-ins with the law, state records show.

Gardner served stints in prison between 2001 and 2010 for cocaine possession, grand theft, burglary and battery on a law enforcement officer, records show.

Davis last year pleaded no contest to cocaine possession and was sentenced to two years of community supervision. In 2009, he pleaded no contest to burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. Adjudication was withheld in both of Davis’ prior cases, meaning no conviction was recorded.
