ESPN bumped Ron Jaworski from its Monday Night Football booth Wednesday, opting instead for a two-man team of Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden.
But Jaworski was given a five-year extension to remain at ESPN, as a studio analyst on the network’s Sunday and Monday pregame shows. He also will continue his role on Edge NFL Matchup.
“With two strong analysts in Ron and Jon, these moves will better utilize their strengths and benefit our entire NFL presentation,” ESPN president John Skipper said.
Jaworski took the high road, saying he “was grateful for having the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of working on MNF.”
Jaworski left his ESPN studio role to join the Monday night booth in 2007, replacing longtime analyst Joe Theismann. Gruden joined ESPN in 2009 and worked in a three-man booth with Tirico and Jaworski the past three seasons.
