Pianist brings a poet’s artistry to Chopin and Schubert

Cyprien Katsaris presented a generous program of works by Schubert, Chopin and Liszt for Friends of Chamber Music Monday night at the University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall. The pianist’s technique easily encompasses the most complex keyboard pyrotechnics, yet he excels in moments of softness and repose. His limpid, pearly tone and subtly calibrated sense of line and pulse turn the nominally percussive keyboard into a poetic, singing instrument. Haitian dance troupe Ayikodans provide intense, thrilling performance

Physically ripped and emotionally expansive, the Haitian dance troupe Ayikodans returned to Miami and the Adrienne Arsht Center on Friday evening. The swell of emotion that surrounded the troupe’s performance there a year ago, as community leaders gathered to support a company on the verge of collapse after the Haitian earthquake, has leveled off somewhat. Photojournalist's show at Freedom Tower features 1960s photos of anti-Castro exiles

Embedded: A Photojournalist Captures Conflict and Resistance, a show drawn from 800 images photojournalist Jim Nickless, of Broward County, shot of CIA-funded Cuban rebels training to overthrow Fidel Castro, will be on view May 24-Aug. 11 at Miami Dade College’s Freedom Tower Gallery.
