Shakira vs. the sea lion

More information

At least she didn’t see any sharks.

Scary. Shakira learned the hard way that sea lions can’t be tamed.

The singer wrote on her Facebook page that she came into contact with one of the creatures while on a trip to Cape Town, South Africa.

She was on a land tour taking pictures like a normal tourist when suddently one jumped out of the water very close to her, maybe a foot away.

"[It] looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me," she wrote. "I was paralyzed by fear and couldn't move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother 'Super Tony' jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast."

Shakira thinks the sea lion thought that her camera phone was edible.

"It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it," she said.

Shak posted a picture of her scraped hand. She injured it while scrambling away on rocks.
