More than 65 crashes were handled Tuesday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Joe Sanchez, a spokesman for FHP, said the rain was a major factor.
“That’s above the average,“ Sanchez, a spokesman for FHP. “30 to 40 accidents are usually normal.”
“All these just on State Roads,” he said. “ This does not include county roads or any other roads. Its been a busy day at work.”
Sanchez said none of the accidents were fatalities only injuries.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was involved in one of the crashes. He was injured in a three-car accident on Florida’s Turnpike between State Road 836 and Northwest 41st Street.
He was taken to Baptist Hospital where authorities said he had neck and lower back pain, but in stable condition.
Many of the crashes came amid early downpours and slick roads. According to local reports, more than four inches of rain fell overnight in parts of South Florida.
