They’re not leaders

It’s insulting and revolting to read that Raúl Castro is a Cuban “leader.” Have Cubans said so in free elections? This mental dwarf is simply a ruthless, decrepit dictator just like his brother Fidel, both of whom have enslaved the Cuban people for more than 53 years.

There are many genuine leaders in the world. Don’t sully their names by including these two among them. The Castro’s are neither leaders nor presidents.

Souto is biased

Re the May 19 article Mosque or Mom’s house?: As an American Muslim from Miami-Dade County Commissioner Javier Souto’s district, I’m disappointed by his skepticism and fear of Islam. As Cuban Americans were offended by Ozzie Guillen’s remarks in support of Fidel Castro, I’m offended by the commissioner’s conclusion that a structure with arches will be used as a mosque to lure students from Florida International University to a faith that he has already labeled in his mind as sinister. 1337725929
Compromise is key

I wish that those senators and representatives who believe that compromise is a sign of weakness and stubbornness is strength would visit the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. They would learn, as I did recently, about how the Founding Fathers created the very Constitution that members of Congress claim to be defending. 1337725869
