hsampson@MiamiHerald.com

A 122-room Cambria Suites is planned for the area around Miami International Airport.

Choice Hotels International, which franchises the Cambria Suites brand and several others, announced the plan this week. Miami-based Sunflower Hospitality is developing the project, which is expected to cost $15-$16 million.

The Miami hotel will be the second Cambria Suites location in Florida; the first was in the Fort Lauderdale area. There are 18 hotels open across the country with more in development.

Construction at the property in the 6700 block of Northwest Seventh Street is set to start this year with the opening expected in the summer of 2013.

The hotel will include an outdoor pool, lake views, a restaurant, coffee bar, fitness center and convenience store.
