Florida drivers can now save themselves the drive and buy their crash reports online.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor vehicles has joined buycrash.com to provide crash reports for drivers and insurance agencies via their computers.
The reports cost $10, the same as they would at a Florida Highway Patrol station.
Although there is a $6 convenience fee for each report ordered online, the service may be more convenient for those who live far away from Miami-Dade’s only FHP station at 1011 NW 111th Ave.
“It all depends on where you are and where you’re going,” said Sergeant Mark Wysocky, the FHP’s Public Affairs Officer. “With the price of gas, people may just want to save themselves the drive.”
After 10 days, reports will be available to those involved in the crash, their insurers and their attorneys. After 60 days they become public, allowing anyone interested in the report to purchase it.
The only other states currently using this service are Nebraska, Indiana, Kentucky and Georgia.
