Perhaps a break in the rent will make all the difference?
On Wednesday, Hollywood city leaders will once again consider renting a building on A1A to use as a welcome center.
Earlier this year, the Hollywood Commission considered creating a one-stop plaza for residents, visitors and tourists, but decided the seven year, $1.1 million commitment was too much.
On Wednesday, city staff will ask the board to consider spending about $268,000 for a two-year period to rent the abandoned building, once used as a car rental agency, at 525 N. Ocean Dr.
Originally, the agreement called for $12,500 rent a month in the first year; with a 3 percent rent increase each year.
A new deal would mean the city would pay $11,000 a month for the first year, and 3 percent more the following year.
The topic will be discussed at 10 a.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Blvd. Later in the day, commissioners will discuss an update on the Police Department’s Federal Highway Task Force and hear an update on the Margaritaville Beach Hotel.
