The Marlins have recorded the first sellout at their new ballpark.

All 10,000 tickets to the team’s exhibition game against the University of Miami on March 6 sold out in matter of days. The tickets went on sale Friday and were gone Monday.

Tickets still remain for the team’s exhibition against Florida International University on March 7. Capacity for that game at Marlins Park is being limited to 15,000 seats.

The Marlins will also play a pair of exhibition contests against the New York Yankees on April 1 and 2, but tickets to those games have not yet been put on sale.

Charity run

Marlins president David Samson will run 50 miles on April 27 to raise money for charity.

Samson, who regularly competes in marathons and triathlons, is raising the funds in honor of the construction workers who made Marlins Park a reality.

All of the proceeds will be donated to 10 “Charities of Choice.”

“The opportunity to not only to thank each of the workers for his/her dedication, but also raise money and awareness for ten very worthy charities, is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Samson said.

To date, the run has raised over $500,000.

Samson will begin his run in Pompano Beach and end at Marlins Park prior to the team’s game against the Diamondbacks.

Burrell to retire

After hitting .230 with seven homers for the San Francisco Giants in 2011 and being bothered by a foot injury throughout the season, Pat Burrell has decided to retire after 13 Major League seasons, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported Monday.

Burrell was the first overall pick in the 1998 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, and he spent nine years with the Phillies. His best year was 2002, when he hit .282 with 37 homers and 116 RBI.
