Re the Jan. 18 article Major oil refinery to close in U.S. Virgin Islands: It was quietly announced that the world’s second largest gasoline refinery in the Virgin Islands is closing to rebalance the market. With both gas prices and oil company profits setting record highs every quarter, this blatant move to limit supply and drive prices even higher could further weaken the recovery of our struggling economy.
Why are we still subsidizing an industry that lies to the American public? By their own admission, there’s no gas shortage. Price gouging is illegal after a natural disaster, why isn’t it now?
