Malcolm Grant’s teammates could see how much his first basket of the second half meant.

Grant scored seven of his 16 points during a game-breaking 14-0 run and Durand Scott had four of his 19, carrying Miami to a 76-54 win over host Boston College on Sunday.

Grant’s three-pointer from the top of the key — the Hurricanes’ first three of the second half — broke a 49-all tie and pushed Miami ahead for good with 6:17 to play.

“I could see in his face how frustrated he was that he wasn’t doing well,” Scott said. “I think he got a basket right after that. You could tell it meant a lot.”

Grant scored just two points in the opening 34 minutes of the game before his late surge.

After taking their three-point lead, the Hurricanes scored the next 11 points — and Grant and Scott were right in the middle of it.

Scott then had a steal and driving basket on the ensuing possession, and Grant hit another jumper to key the game-breaking spurt.

Kenny Kadji finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Hurricanes (12-7, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) and Reggie Johnson added 12 points.

Matt Humphrey had 13 points to lead Boston College (7-14, 2-5).

UM women win

Shenise Johnson scored 16 of her 22 points in the opening half to lead No. 10 Miami to its eighth consecutive win, an 88-57 rout over host Boston College.

The Hurricanes (19-3, 8-1 ACC) never trailed and pulled to a double-digit lead on Riquna Williams’ basket in the lane 5:44 into the game. Their advantage never dropped into single digits the rest of the way.

Tessah Holt paced Boston College (5-16, 0-8) with 12 points.
