The Jan. 26 article Red Berry’s legendary Miami baseball academy to close in April brought back a flood of memories.
Over a decade ago, both my sons played at Red Berry’s where they learned baseball fundamentals, life values and how to be a “nasty boy.” While my older son drifted to other sports, my younger son used the skills to propel him to a successful varsity baseball career at Gulliver Prep.
We won’t easily forget Berry, a truly unique Miami institution. While the smell of fresh cut grass and the ping of aluminum bats will fade, the values learned and lifelong friendships made at Red Berry’s will remain and these will be his true legacy. I know I speak for many when I award Berry a special “HG Cup” and “Super Patch” for a job well done.
