Little Dublin — er, Brickell — will be getting jiggy with it this weekend when The Lucky Clover Irish Pub takes over with a block party 7-10 p.m. Saturday with live entertainment and free food and cocktails. Located at 1111 SW First Ave., Lucky Clover will close off Southwest 11th Street between First and South Miami avenues. The Spam All Stars and Orlando’s Legendary JC’s will perform, DJs will spin and from 7-9 p.m., there will be free bite sized samples of the restaurant’s menu as well as those highly coveted, free cocktails. At 11 p.m., the party moves inside.
Over in Midtown, it seems like Ricochet Bar & Lounge has become a comedy club, with Gilbert Gottfried back in December, and now, at 8 p.m. Monday, Tommy Davidson will bring his standup act to the so -called “culture-centric bar and lounge.” Tickets are $25 per person and available at ricochetlounge.com/#section8.
More entertainment beyond the usual people watching is taking place at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, which has partnered with Design District hot spot The Stage to showcase local and national acts from 8-11 p.m. every Thursday in the hotel’s Hemisphere Lounge. Performing Feb. 2 is Cat Shell, a Miami singer/songwriter who fuses jazz, R&B and pop into her own inimitable style. Think Billie Holiday meets Diana Krall meets Adele. On Feb. 9, indie pop rocker Nicolle Chirino, daughter of legendary musician Willy, performs.
From Willy Chirino to Willie Nelson, Tobacco Road has country-rock group The Hackensaw Boys performing at 10 p.m. Saturday for $5. And, because it’s Miami, where having a DJ is as important as having oxygen to breathe, DJ Care Bear will spin at 11 p.m. on the Road’s main stage.
Fans of electronic music will want to head to Wynwood for a performance by Miami-based electro pop duo BFGF at 10 p.m. Friday, at Cafeina, where cover is $5 after 10 p.m. Early birds truly do get the buzz there, however, with happy hour from 5-8 p.m. offering two for one drinks and $5 tapas. For higher rollers, a bottle of Patron is $150 all night long.
Also cool and hip in Wynwood: a performance by Krisp, a band that describes its genre as indie/dance/chillwave at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Armory Studios, 572 NW 23rd St. In addition, a few more performances, some intentional, others impromptu, we’re sure, as well as free drinks and fashion demos. A $10 cover will get you in — we think. The event’s Facebook page says to “Tell your friends, only the cool ones.” As if you have anything but.
Now that we’ve covered funk, jazz, country electro, and, uh, chillwave, we move on to retro, which shockingly seems to fall somewhere in the ’80s right now, making many of us feel old enough or, gasp, in some cases too old, to be Justin Bieber’s parents. Celebrating the sounds of that decade is the News Lounge, whose ’80s Takeover Party by DJ Zog oozes with aural nostalgia in the form of retro, freestyle, classic rock and more at 10 p.m. Saturday.
For those planning ahead, from 7-11 p.m. Feb. 9 at Grand Central, it’s the Femme Factory, a shopping, spa-ing, eating and drinking extravaganza catering to the fairer set, who are admitted for free. Men are welcome, too. Not just a frivolous free for all, the event also has a social conscience and is asking you to bring your baggage to donate to Purses With A Purpose, an organization that collects donated new and gently worn purses, resells them at great prices and donates the proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Tickets for the men are $15 and available at http://femmefactorylaunch.eventbrite.com.
And finally, a new Friday night party at Skybar at the Shore Club called Have a Heart features DJ Mike Larson spinning an open format of sexy house and “splashes of the deepest dubset.” And while we have no idea what the event name means, whatever it is (we’re told it has to do with something charitable), it sounds like an excellent cocktail.
