Luxury ecommerce site Gilt City is launching a new “Insiders” program in South Florida on Wednesday, choosing local Internet marketing entrepreneur Loren Ridinger to curate the first set of online deals.
For consumers, that translates to 30 percent to 60 percent discounts on an array of upscale shops, restaurants, spas and other beauty-oriented spots.
“It’s a selective process. We bring together members of the community that represent our brands, in terms of luxury and experiences,” said James Wark, lead curator for Gilt City South Florida. “So Loren was our No. 1 Insider selected. We utilize her as a voice for the site, allowing members to live the life of Loren.”
Ridinger, senior vice president and co-founder of Miami Beach-based online shopping portal marketamerica.com, has created various brands, including the cosmetic line, Motives by Loren Ridinger; the skincare line, Cellular Laboratories; and the jewelry collection, Loren Jewels.
Being a Gilt City Insider “is about curating those things I love, which are fashion and beautiful things, great entertainment, great restaurants,” Ridinger said.
For Gilt City, her choices add “a level of cachet to the site, like an editor’s pick,” said Gilt City spokeswoman Caitlyn Carpanzano.
Ridinger’s first set of sales go live on the site Wednesday at www.giltcity.com/miami. A second slate of sales will go live on Friday. All are in limited quantity and will last on the site for one week or until sold-out, Carpanzano said.
Among the offerings:
• Green Monkey Midtown: a 30-day package of unlimited yoga classes. Retail value $169, Gilt City price $69.
• BLO Bar Midtown and Brickell: One signature blowout. Retail value $35, Gilt City price $17.
• Sobe Tan by Fabiola: Single spray tan session. Retail value $63, Gilt City price $37. Three-session spray tan pack. Retail value $159, Gilt City price $95.

Other deals will feature the Mr. Chow, Rik Rak, Nail Bar, Isa Boutique, Curve Boutique, Casa Tua, The Forge, and AmericanAirlines Arena.
“This is our first sale, and I really wanted to pull something together for all the people who haven’t had the chance to have these experiences or just haven’t had the time,” Ridinger said.
The options she chose represent some of her favorite spots, she said, and many of the owners are friends. Forge owner Shareef Malnik, for example, is her daughter’s godfather. She said she loves the Miami Beach restaurant for its “Alice in Wonderland” feeling. Similarly, she said she loves the food and atmosphere at Miami Beach’s Casa Tua.
“I wanted to feature places that are not on the usual beaten track,” she said, “and feature them for their uniqueness.”
Ridinger said she received no compensation.
“I did it as a favor to them,” she said. “It’s really about sharing my love of Miami.”
Gilt City, now available in 11 cities, is one of the newest extensions of Gilt Groupe, offering savings on packages focused on lifestyle experiences.
Miami becomes the fifth city for Gilt City Insiders, following launches during the past four months in Boston, San Francisco, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
So far, the program is paying off in visitor clicks. Gilt City registered a 40 percent increase in traffic during the week the Insider offerings went live in other cities, Carpanzano said. Overall, Gilt City has 2.1 million members, with the majority between ages 20 and 39, with a household income of more than $100,000.
Ridinger is not the only local “influencer” to join the Gilt ranks.
South Beach Wine & Food Festival founder Lee Schrager last year was named Gilt’s “chief lifestyle advisor,” helping with culinary experiences nationally.
Ridinger’s Market America, launched 21 years ago, acquired shop.com last year, and expects to generate sales of $1 billion this year, offering 35 million products, including those on its partner sites, she said.
The company, already active in the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Taiwan, is opening in the United Kingdom and Mexico next month, she said.
“It’s an exciting time for us. I have a show with HSN,” she said. “I have a lot going on.”
