A 36-year-old man was killed Monday morning when his motorcycle slammed into the side of a Miami Fire Rescue truck.

The truck, with emergency lights and siren on, was transporting a patient through a green light at Northwest 12th Avenue and 46th Street at 6:15 a.m. Monday when the crash happened, said Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll.

The impact was so severe that the motorcycle broke into pieces and the driver was thrown about 50 to 100 feet.

The paramedics made a U-turn and jumped off their truck to give CPR to the badly injured cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet. He had no pulse and was not breathing.

The cyclist was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where he died, Carroll said.

An additional fire-rescue truck was called to take the original patient to the VA hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The firefighters aboard Fire Rescue Unit No. 9 were not injured.

Another vehicle was involved in the crash, but the passengers weren’t hurt.
