A Miami Beach police SWAT team spent most of Saturday surrounding a mid-Beach home, waiting out a man they thought was barricaded inside. But the house turned out to be empty.

A woman called police at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday and reported that “she ran out of her residence with her small children, and her husband had weapons in the home,” said Officer Deborah Doty, a department spokeswoman.

The wife also told police that her husband “had physically abused her,” Doty said.

Doty said the children were unharmed.

Meanwhile, police closed off traffic to the area.

The suspect was not in the house when the police entered at approximately 7 p.m., Doty said.
