TALLAHASSEE -- The second week of the legislative session begins with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday observation. State offices are closed and legislators are out of town so it’s a quiet day in the state Capitol Monday. Here are a few things to watch today:
• Gov. Rick Scott: The governor plans a quiet day. Unlike past years, the governor is not doing a public reception in honor of Martin Luther King. He held an invitation-only event at the Governor’s Mansion last week.
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson: The state’s senior senator will be in Miami Monday with U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson to speak at the 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Scholarship Breakfast at Jungle Island.
Primary debate: For those who haven’t seen a GOP primary debate yet, or those who are captivated by the sheer sport of it, you get another chance Monday night. FOX News hosts a Republican debate out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on the eve of that state’s Republican primary.
