Applying for veep

Re Sen. Marco Rubio’s Jan. 11 Other Views article criticizing President Obama: Rubio said that “America is becoming a deadbeat nation inevitably heading toward a European-style debt crisis.”

The letter evidently is the senator’s application to be the 2012 candidate for vice-president. As the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio should reflect gratitude having been given every opportunity in this great land. As a Floridian, I cannot think of one major issue the senator has championed to make lives better. Whoever the Republican presidential candidate may be, it might be best to distance oneself from the young senator with the Castro mentality.

I am profoundly disappointed with the May 13 and April 30 editorials, Politics at its worst and Dreaming of a convention center. The two editorials were full of false statements and “spin” provided by the city manager’s supporters and, apparently his very own unauthorized taxpayer funded crisis manager.

Audubon Florida was happy to see the May 13 article South Florida cuts water use by 20 percent, on the success of South Florida’s water-conservation methods. Our region has made progress. But if South Floridians want water security in the future, more must be done through meaningful water conservation. 1337637813

Guess we have yet another Republican-influenced election year stunt with the 180,000 questionable “citizen status” verification voters.
