From Miami Herald Wire Services

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) – Shenise Johnson scored 24 points, Morgan Stroman added 18 with 10 rebounds and No. 13 Miami beat Georgia Tech 77-65 on Monday night.

The Hurricanes (13-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) have won four of five and improved to 3-3 on the road this season.

Sasha Goodlett finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Georgia Tech (11-5, 1-2).

The Yellow Jackets, who were coming off a three-point loss at No. 5 Maryland last week, have dropped two straight following a six-game winning streak.

Chelsea Regins’ three-point play brought Georgia Tech within four at 54-50, but the Yellow Jackets went 4:29 without a field goal, and Miami took the game’s biggest lead at 15 on Shanel Williams’ layup at the 7:28 mark.

After Goodlett’s two-footer made it 66-60 with 4:55 remaining, Georgia Tech never got any closer.

Miami improved to 12-1 when leading at halftime.

Men’s top 25 poll

Syracuse, one of three unbeaten teams in Division I, is on top of The Associated Press’ college basketball poll for the fifth week in a row.

The Orange received 60 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel. Kentucky, which got the other No. 1 votes, North Carolina and Baylor remained second through fourth.

Ohio State moved up one spot to fifth and was followed by Michigan State, Indiana, Duke, Missouri and Kansas in the Top 10.

Baylor and No. 15 Murray State are the other unbeatens.

Creighton, which was out of the poll for one week, moved back in at No. 23, while Seton Hall, which has won 11 of 12, moved in at No. 24, its first appearance since January 2001.

Wisconsin, ranked as high as No. 9, fell out from 18th after its third consecutive loss. Harvard, which was ranked three of the last five weeks, fell out from 22nd.

Women’s top 25 poll

Baylor remains the unanimous No. 1 in The Associated Press women’s college basketball poll while South Carolina has entered the Top 25 for the first time in nine years.

The Lady Bears received all the first-place votes for the sixth consecutive week after beating Missouri and Iowa State.

Notre Dame moved up to second after topping then-No. 2 Connecticut. The Huskies were third, followed by Stanford and Maryland.

Tennessee, Duke, Rutgers, Kentucky and Texas Tech round out the Top 10.

South Carolina entered at No. 24 after beating then-No. 24 Vanderbilt and Florida last week. The Gamecocks, last ranked in the final poll of 2002-03, routed North Carolina before the holidays. Gonzaga also is ranked for the first time this season, coming in at No. 23.

Penn State and Texas fell out of the poll.

Notes

•  Morgan State: Coach Todd Bozeman has been suspended indefinitely without pay after being involved in a physical altercation with one of his players during a victory at South Carolina State on Saturday night. Bozeman is accused of punching senior guard Larry Bastfield during the game. The extent of the contact between Bozeman and Bastfield is being reviewed by officials of both schools. The coach insisted that he would never strike one of his athletes.
