A funeral home worker has been arrested after a dead man's relatives said he stole from their loved one's home while preparing to remove the man's body, the Broward Sheriff's Office said on Monday.

Armando Sardina, 56, of Miami, stands accused of stealing $327 while he was arranging to take Michael Bressler's body from his Tamarac home.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Sardina, a body removal service worker employed by Service Corp. International, the parent company of the Star of David funeral home, went to Bressler's home on Jan. 5.

While he was in the home, Bressler's relatives noticed the money was missing from a bank bag in the master bedroom. A family member confronted Sardina, who later allowed a deputy to search his vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said.

The deputy found the $327 between the seats of Sardina's van. He later apologized for the theft, the Sheriff's Office said.

Sardina has been charged with one count of grand theft.

Bressler, 53, died after going into cardiac arrest, family members said.

The Sheriff's Office is urging families who believe they have been victimized by Sardina to call their local law enforcement agency.
