Palm Beach cabbie struck, killed in eatery parking lot

 

A West Palm Beach cab driver was struck and killed early Sunday as he stood in a parking lot of a restaurant chatting with other taxis.

The victim was identified as Luis Jimenez, by Palm Beach Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred when Juan Diego Martinez, 26, of Lake Worth, drove into the parking lot of the El Toro nightclub at 1999 S. Military Trail minutes after midnight and lost control of his vehicle, deputies said.

He slammed his1998 Oldsmobile into two vehicles before careening into Jimenez, deputies said.

Jimenez died at the scene.

A second man, Julio Vazquez, was taken to JFK Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A third man, Bernardo Martinez, refused treatment.

The case remains under investigation.
