DOLPHINS RB REGGIE BUSH VS. BILLS DEFENSE

Who won: Bush.

Impact: Reggie Bush didn’t get much early on as the Dolphins fell behind in the first quarter. But he gained some key yards as the game progressed. The Dolphins continued to hand him the ball and utilized him mainly out of the backfield. Bush was thrown to only once for a 6-yard gain. He finished with 25 carries for 203 yards. The yardage total was the fourth best in a single-game by a Dolphin running back. Bush’s best play sealed the game when he broke through the line, hurdled a diving attempt at a tackle and raced to the end zone for a 76-yard touchdown run that gave the Dolphins a 30-13 lead and pretty much clinched the victory.

DOLPHINS DEFENSE VS. BILLS QB RYAN FITZPATRICK

Who won: Dolphins defense.

Impact: The Dolphins put pressure on quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick consistently. On the first drive, Cameron Wake got the first of three sacks. But the Dolphins secondary was able to create three key turnovers. Vontae Davis made two interceptions, and Reshad Jones had the other. Had the Dolphins not turned the ball over themselves, the interceptions could have led to key scores that might have turned the game into a rout. Ryan Fitzpatrick also often overthrew receivers on third downs forcing the Bills to punt. Fitzpatrick didn’t have much consistency until the fourth quarter when the Dolphins already had a 17-point lead.

DOLPHINS DEFENSE VS. BILLS RB C.J. SPILLER

Who won: Spiller.

Impact: Although the Dolphins won the game, running back C.J. Spiller had some big moments in the game. Spiller finished with 12 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown from 24 yards out that gave Buffalo its only lead of the game at 7-0 in the first quarter. The score followed an 18-yard run. Spiller also led Buffalo’s attempted fourth-quarter comeback when he scored from 3 yards out with 5:54 left to cut the Dolphins lead to 30-20. Spiller was targeted 11 times and caught nine of the passes for 76 yards. The Bills, however, wasted Spiller’s efforts, going 0 for 11 on third down and committing three turnovers.
