The Jungfrau Railway, which reaches the highest-altitude train station in Europe, is launching its centenary with light artist Gerry Hofstetter, who plans to project the Swiss cross and other motifs on to the north face of the mountain on New Year’s Eve. Hofstetter plans to set up a bivouac below the summit of the Jungfrau and spend nine days living in a snow hole at just under 11,000 feet above sea level. Weather permitting, his illuminations will continue through Jan. 8.
