Two people were burned in a blaze that destroyed four yachts in a private Coconut Grove marina early Saturday morning, officials said.

The fire, which erupted before dawn, caused more the $7 million in damages. About 40 firefighters worked on the blaze, which took more than two and half hours to bring under control.

Two security officers at the marina spotted one of the yachts on fire about 6:30 a.m. at Grove Harbour Marina, just off Bayshore Drive. Two people were seen running from the 65-foot vessel, which is believed to be named “Frieda Spirit,” said Lt. Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue.

The two people were still being interviewed late Saturday. The yacht, moored in slip one, was occupied by a captain, a man, a woman and a 13-year-old boy. The man and woman both suffered minor burns and were transported with the teenager to Mercy Hospital, Carroll said. Their names were not released.

By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to the next slip, and that yacht, a 72-footer named “Zaza,” was also burning, as well as a third vessel, “The Parranda,” which Carroll said belongs to the owner of the Pilon Coffee Co.

A fourth ship, about 75-feet, named “The Splendour,” was also threatened, but was rescued by a tow boat, which brought it out into the harbor before it sustained too much damage, Carroll said.

A fourth vessel, whose name was not known, sustained heat damage.

Carroll said firefighters used foam to quell the fire.

The fire marshal is investigating, but at this point, the fire is not considered suspicious, Carroll said. The cause remains under investigation.

The names of the owners of the various vessels were not released.

“We’re looking at people, questioning several, but there’s no telling what direction to go as far as the fire yet,” said Carroll, adding that there were cameras on the docks that are being reviewed.
