• Fisheries researchers at Nova Southeastern University need the angling public’s help to conduct a blackfin tuna tagging study. Scientists would like to accompany South Florida guides and anglers on tuna trips in order to implant some fish with tags. • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reminds anglers that snook harvest season in the Atlantic, as well as Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River, will close Thursday and reopen Feb. 1. • Anglers 16 and younger are invited to fish in the Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament on Friday through Sunday. Headquarters is Oceanview Sports Bar & Grill, mile marker 84.5, U.S. 1. • Kids and adults can learn how to be better anglers at the Mercury/IGFA Free Family Fishing Clinic on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the IGFA Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania Beach. • Registration is open until Dec. 30 for the 115-mile, 10-day Paddle Florida Keys Challenge, which begins Jan.12. Up to 100 kayakers are expected for the trip from Key Largo to Key West celebrating the centennial of the Florida Keys Overseas Railroad. Registration fee is $800 per person for the 10-day trip, which includes overnight accommodations and meals, or $90 per day. • Kids aged 12 to 17 are invited to compete in the Junior Bass Tournament Trail, a series of four tournaments that begins Jan. 15 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach.
