S. Florida woman receives kidney after Craigslist ad comes through

selder@MiamiHerald.com

A South Florida woman should be able to walk around without a kidney dialysis machine soon thanks to a Craigslist ad.

Selina Hodge, 28, is in recovery after receiving a kidney from a total stranger. Hodge posted a plea on Craigslist.org back in July asking for someone to donate a kidney. She received more than 800 responses from all over the world.

After seeing the story on the news, Stephanie Grant , a 23 year-old Stephanie Grant Palm Beach Garden resident who lives just miles away from Hodge, stepped forward to help. Both Grant and Hodge had to go through a series of psychosocial and medical tests before the procedure could be approved.

On Tuesday, the wait was over as the women were prepared for surgery at the University of Miami Medical Center Campus. Their families prayed before they were taken in for the procedure. WPTV 5 reports both women are recovering without complications and will remain in the hospital while doctors closely monitor their recovery.
