Colorful, vibrant and airy — Alexis Barbara Isaias’ designs, available at Neiman Marcus, are synonymous with South Florida living. Since 2008, her line, Alexis, has been adored for high-quality dresses, tunics, tees, cover-ups and flowing pants that are perfect for Miami’s endless summer.

We chatted up the 24-year-old designer about working with mom, being a mother and her booming, Miami-based fashion line.Q. At what age did you know you wanted to be a designer?

When I was 3. Q. Your mother, Ana Barbara, is your business partner. Describe that dynamic.

We have often been referred to as the “dynamic duo.” Together the sky is the limit and our ideas are never ending. Q. We love that you design and create your line here in Miami. Why did you choose to stay in the 305?

What I love most is here — my family, the beach and diverse cultures.Q. Define the Alexis girl.

She is effortlessly chic.Q. Your designs are easy and breezy. What inspires you?

My inspiration comes from vintage shopping, photography, style icons, cultures, music and the beach.Q. If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?

A style icon.Q. You are a mother of two. How do you juggle work and mommyhood?

It’s more of a dance than a juggle. I’m lucky enough to be able to design from home so I don’t feel like I’m missing precious little moments. I’m happiest when I find that baby, toddler and Alexis are in sync. When everything falls into a rhythm is when I’m most inspired. I do, however, sometimes find myself doing the quickstep.
