A man was shot in the chest Monday night at a park in South Miami Heights, according to Miami-Dade police.
Police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said a young man and woman were working out at the park, 10850 SW 211th St., when three young men who appeared to be juveniles approached them at gunpoint. They robbed the male victim, Rutland said, and fled on foot toward the Busway along U.S. 1.
“They stole the male victim’s iPod and subsequently shot him,” Rutland said.
The female with the man took him to a nearby Miami-Dade fire rescue station. He was then airlifted to Kendall Regional Hospital.
He was in stable condition late Monday, Rutland said.
“Investigators are still trying to gather more information on the subjects’ descriptions,” Rutland said.
“Sadly, this young man could have easily lost his life over an iPod,” Rutland said.
The names of the robbery victims were not immediately released.
Police asked anyone with information about the robbery to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
