I read the Dec. 7 story ALF watchdog: I was dumped for doing my job, about the “decertification” of my friend and fellow ombudsman Bill Hearne with dismay.
There has been no more dedicated advocate for the elderly residents of assisted-living facilities and nursing homes than Bill. He has been outspoken regarding the abuse of the elderly and Tallahassee’s continuing efforts to emasculate this once-valuable program.
It now appears that the politicians who “represent” us and their financial masters have succeeded by silencing Bill’s voice as an advocate and as a conscience for this program. The program was designed to protect the elderly residents of the facilities. They now will suffer as a result of Bill’s decertification — and other outspoken ombudsmen are certain to share his fate. For shame.
