The french fry wars: Burger King cooks up a new recipe

Miami Herald Staff Report

Burger King has rolled out fatter, fluffier fries.

The Miami-Dade hamburger chain is billing its reformed french fries as fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the outside — a formula that keeps them hotter for longer. Burger King, which introduced the pencil-wide fries this week, says the new recipe has 20 percent less sodium.

"We're always trying to have the best menu possible. French fries are a big seller for us and we want to make sure we're always improving," Leo Leon, vice president of innovation, told Reuters.

Last year, Wendy’s also introduced wider fries, billed as “natural cut” with sea salt.

According to consumer surveys, McDonald’s has the gold-standard fries, but other burger chains are turning up the heat, including Five Guys.

Burger’s King’s revamp is the first for its fries since the late 1990’s, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

The price remains the same.
