Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, will make his first official visit to South Florida on Saturday.
Holness will speak at a town hall meeting at ChristWay Baptist Church, 3800 S. Douglas Rd. in Miramar, where he will discuss his vision for Jamaica, and give Jamaicans in South Florida a chance to voice their concerns about the future of the country.
The event runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and was organized by the Jamaica Labour Party, and the Florida-based young professional arm of the organization, G2K Miami, Florida.
“We’re looking forward to the prime minister’s visit because there are a lot of Jamaicans living in South Florida who want their voice to be heard,” G2K vice president Sherman Calnek said.
Jamaica’s former prime minister, Bruce Golding, stepped down in October, and Holness, 39, the youngest premier in Jamaican history, was unanimously chosen by Labor Party lawmakers.
Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness, a distant cousin of the prime minister, is hosting the event.
