Art for Everyone

Art for Everyone

With so much art to see this week, why not customize your itinerary? Our Basel correspondents offer their tailor-made recommendations.

For The Mind Blower: You want art that makes you say: “Whoa, dude.” Your kind of art perplexes and amazes and gives pause.

Go see: Archeologist Verifies Acid Flashbacks by avaf at Wynwood Walls, between 25th and 26th streets. Like wandering into a psychedelic cartoon, this massive installation will have your head spinning.

JORDAN LEVIN

For the Maximalist: Yes, that is the opposite of a Minimalist. The bigger the art, the better. You want to wonder how they got the thing inside in the first place.

Go see: Black Jack by Inigo Manglano-Ovalle at Art Basel Miami Beach, at the Galerie Thomas Schulte (C18). This 13-foot-tall aluminum recreation of the old-time toy is one of the largest pieces on the Basel floor at the Miami Beach Convention center.

For the Haunted: The best art stops you cold. You don’t need the piece to shock you, just to give you the kind of chill that comes with art that straddles the line between disturbing and intriguing.

Go see: Halo Eaters by Jason Shawn Alexander at Scope (Booth E32) at 101 NE 40th St., Miami. Maybe it’s horror or maybe it’s despair, but this painting’s broad brush strokes combine to rattle the nerves.
