JUNO BEACH -- A man's body has washed ashore in Juno Beach, and both the city police and Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies have been called to investigate, sheriff's officials report.
The looming question is whether the body is that of a Virginia man who may have been swept into the ocean off the Singer Island shores Saturday.
Riviera Beach police identified that missing man as 49-year-old David Moore. The search for Moore began Saturday night after a friend reported that he was swept out to sea as he stood in the surf on Singer Island about 3:30 p.m.
Moore was last seen standing in knee-high water near Ocean Reef Park, according to information released this morning by police spokeswoman Rose Anne Brown. But no one saw Moore go under water at any time, she reports.
U.S. Coast Guard boats and helicopter searched for Moore into Sunday afternoon unsuccessfully. It suspended its search and police are now treating Moore's disappearance as a missing person investigation.
Moore is described at 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has short hair, no facial hair and thin build. He was last seen wearing a pair of black swimming trunks with a stripe on the side.
Anyone with information that may help finding Moore is asked to call Riviera Beach Police at (561) 845-4123 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS (8477).
