10 Gables High students earn National Merit distinctions

Coral Gables Senior High School recently announced that 10 of its students are among the nation’s academic elite based on their achievements in College Board testing.

Three students are semifinalists in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program:

• Madeline Cowen
• Alexa Langen
• Larissa Weinstein

These young ladies scored in the top 1% of more than 1.5 million students on their 2011 PSAT/NMSQT exam and are eligible to become finalists for National Merit Scholarships. Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring.

Additionally, five Gables High students are among commended students in the National Merit Scholarship Program:

• Christopher Cowen
• Andy Fernandez
• Mariana Munera
• Gretel Sanchez
• Stefan Schalk

Commended students placed among the top 5% of more than 1.5 million students on their PSAT/NMSQT exam.

Five Gables High students were also honored in the National Hispanic Recognition Program:

• Andy Fernandez
• Mariana Munera
• Bryan Padron
• Gretel Sanchez
• Stefan Schalk

This year the National Hispanic Recognition Program is recognizing nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 235,000 who took the PSAT/NMSQT/PAA

Fifty students will be awarded. They also will be awarding each scholarship winner with a laptop computer in addition to the scholarship grant. Deadline to submit the applications online is January 26, 2012. 

  • Coral Reef chorus students chosen for All-State Chorus

    Nineteen Coral Reef Senior High School chorus students have competed and have been selected as members of the 2012 Florida All-State Chorus.
