An 8-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Sunday after he was bitten by a loose pit bull in Deerfield Beach.

The boy, who was not identified, was attacked outside of his house in the 300 block of Southeast First Street, according to a report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The boy ran inside the house. The dog followed.

Not long after, members of the boy’s family were able to chase the dog out of the house, according to the report. Deputies followed the pit bull for another two blocks until Broward County Animal Care and Regulation workers came and removed it.

The boy was treated on the scene by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Deerfield Beach and then airlifted to Broward General Medical Center.

His face was badly cut, but he was conscious and breathing, deputies said.
