The 3G wireless network for AT&T is experiencing fluctuations after being down for most of Friday afternoon across South Florida.
The network outage affected wireless customers from mid-Broward County south to Key West, and was due to an equipment issue, according to AT&T. As AT&T works to restore the network, customers may notice their signals switching between 3G and the slower 2G network, called Edge.
During a network outage, phones should automatically switch to Edge when 3G is not available. If it doesn’t, customers can restart their phones to connect to Edge, or change the network in the settings menu.
AT&T said in a statement late Friday afternoon:
“While we did restore service to the majority of customers earlier, as we continued to tweak the 3G network it was determined we needed to reboot it in order to get service restored for all impacted customers. We apologize sincerely for the service interruption.”
