PROPERTY TAXES

Miami-Dade to set preliminary tax rate today

Miami-Dade commissioners are expected to set a tentative property-tax rate Tuesday.

Whatever the amount approved, the rate can later be lowered, but it cannot be raised. Before commissioners set the prelimninary rate, they will discuss and debate Mayor Carlos Gimenez's proposed $6.2 million budget.

County commissioners will have two public hearings, Sept. 8 and 22, before deciding on a final budget and tax rate.
