Traffic alert: SUV crash sends two to hospital, snarls traffic on Turnpike

Palm Beach Post

An accident involving a sport utility vehicle that rolled over on the northbound Okeechobee Boulevard exit ramp of Florida's Turnpike has sent two people to the hospital and may cause delays for morning commuters.

Capt. Don DeLucia, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, said one woman has been flown to St. Mary's Medical Center with serious injuries and a second Trauma Hawk flew to the scene as well to take a second woman to St. Mary's.

The accident involved a Hyundai SUV that went off the exit ramp on to the shoulder, rolled over and hit a tree, said Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for Florida Highway Patrol. He added that the passenger had a head injury. However, both driver and passenger were conscious.

Initial reports indicated that the Turnpike may be shut down to allow the second Trauma Hawk to land but that could not be confirmed.

If you're headed northbound on Florida's Turnpike, get off on Southern Boulevard to avoid any delays.
