The First Prebyterian International Christian School on Brickell Avenue held its annual Solidarity Day Feb 12 and raised $8.800 to help build a classroom in Haiti on Isle a Vache, a poor island off the south coast.

Principal Ines Lozano and pre-school teacher Veronica Alter are leading a team of volunteers to Isle a Vache in March to help build new classrooms at one of the island's schools. The Solidarity Day was sponsored by Pizza Rustica, The Knife restaurant, El Rincon Asturiano and Xixon tapas restaurants, Grigio Bikes, Isa Zapata and the Consulate of the Dominican Republic.

The children of Isle a Vache live in a particularly difficult situation. Some even at the age of 4 have to walk over an hour to get to the nearest school. Some parents can not afford the mere $2.25 registration fee required by the school.

But this does not discourage the kids from waking up every morning looking for a place to learn. Your support can help turn this remote location into a little paradise where education is key to the future of the children.
