Gables High baseball greats return for team fundraiser

Retired Major League Baseball player Eli Marrero spent a day on the green to reconnect with his roots at Coral Gables Senior High School as he prepares for a new job and career as a minor league coach with the Cincinnati Reds. On the Gables High team, he savored victory with a 1992 district championship after a team dry spell of over 30 years that felt “like winning the World Series.”

Mr. Marrero, a West Kendall resident, and over 70 others golfed and attended the twilight cocktail reception on the terrace of the Biltmore Hotel to support the CGSHS team with its fourth annual Golf Extravaganza and Cocktail Reception on Monday, Jan. 24.
