OAKLAND PARK

Police: Science teacher molested a girl at school

CBS4.COM

A Broward County middle school science teacher was arrested Friday for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with an eighth grade student.

Orville Edwards, 36, of Hollywood, had been working at James S. Rickards Middle School in Oakland Park for five years. Edwards now faces three counts – one sexual battery charge and two lewd or lascivious molestation charges.

Edwards allegedly molested the girl during school hours. The arrest report details explicitly the acts that occurred between March 9th and March 24th, 2010 in Edwards' science room.

The victim, whose name is being withheld because of the nature of the crime, told police that Edwards asked for her phone number. Edwards would allegedly ask the victim to meet him during sixth period in his classroom where the molestation allegedly occurred.

Police say Edwards confessed to having engaged in a sexual relationship with the victim and corroborated her version of events.
