The suddenly resurgent Minnesota Timberwolves shoot for a season-high fourth straight win when they welcome the struggling Memphis Grizzlies to Target Center.
The T-Wolves will also be hoping to avoid a season sweep at the hands of Memphis, which has already won the first three meetings between the two clubs this season. The Grizzlies have never swept a season series from Minnesota in their 15-year history.
The Wolves won their third straight in Dallas last night when rookie Jonny Flynn scored 19 points and dished out seven assists, as Minnesota used a late surge to take down the Mavericks, 117-108, at American Airlines Center.
Kevin Love added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who have won a the three in a row after a five-game skid. Al Jefferson and Ryan Hollins each donated 15 points. Corey Brewer and Ryan Gomes chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Minnesota, which had dropped 13 straight versus Dallas.
"Very nice. Very nice. We talked to our guys about keeping a focus on things that we can control in terms of our defense, rebounding, and taking care of the basketball," Minnesota head coach Kurt Rambis said. "We did a solid job rebounding, not a great job. I thought our defense was pretty good most of the ballgame. We had some stretches where we had lapses, but our guys are learning how to play together."
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, have been struggling recently, losing for the fourth time in five games against Houston last night. Aaron Brooks paced the Rockets with 19 points and eight rebounds in that one, as Houston handily pounded Memphis, 101-83.
The teams came in sporting identical 26-22 records in the competitive Western Conference, but the Grizzlies failed to rise to the occasion, getting outrebounded, 50-35, and hitting a mere 1-of-9 from three-point range.
Marc Gasol had 17 points and eight boards for the Grizzlies, who had won a franchise-record 11 straight home games before losing two of their last three at FedExForum. Zach Randolph went for 14 and eight rebounds.
"We can't play like that if we want to be where we say we want to be," Gasol said. "In the tough times, we have to get together and help each other. Now is those times, and we have to be there for each other."
