See a tabloid name in person at the Dolphin Mall Friday when DJ Samantha Ronson -- whose name has been more affiliated with Lindsay Lohan than with her turntable mastery -- spins. She's part of the G by Guess Ultimate Remix DJ tour, which comes to our neck of the woods -- specifically the Ramblas Plaza -- from 8:30-11:30 p.m. The location is a far cry from LIV or Cameo, but how refreshing to be able to check out such a talent at the wholesome West Miami outlet mall. Local DJ Troy Kurtz kicks off the party, and free Rockstar beverages will be on tap. Because it's a family friendly event, there is no booze so you'll really be able to tell if Ronson is talented or the Grey Goose has been misleading you all these years. No cover charge, but it is advised you arrive early or else you may have to battle Lohan for a spot. Just kidding.
Less tabloid worthy is another fab show Saturday at the Electric Pickle, where indie electronica band Yacht will perform at Poplife as part of the Jose Cuervo Platino Music Series. Doors open at 10 p.m., cover is $10, and there's a free Cuervo Platino bar until 11:30 p.m.
Emerging from the underground in the best possible way is UV, The U2 Tribute Band. Its sounds are so eerily similar to the original that when people heard them playing a wedding at Casa Casuarina, we received countless e-mails saying Bono and U2 were performing live there. Hear for yourself when the band plays at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Brickell Irish Pub or at 7 p.m. Thursday when it plays Waxy's on the River's official grand opening party.
Continuing on the cover band theme are Live Music Nights at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort where on Friday the B Street Band -- yes, a Bruce Springsteen tribute group -- channels The Boss and Co. On Wednesday at the Newport: the jazzy, snazzy, rock 'n' roll takes a Brazilian vacation sounds of Cleaveland Jones. All shows are free and start at 8 p.m. And jamming on Friday and Saturday night is Jazid, where The Spam Allstars will perform upstairs. No cover before 11 p.m.
Over at the Paris Theatre, 550 Washington Ave., at 9 p.m. Tuesday, the Diesel U: MUSIC Concert featuring two as yet unnamed headliners along with Kid Kudi, Santigold, Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt and DJ Mom Jeans (actor Danny Masterson). For free tix, go to any area Diesel store or Bloomie's at the Aventura Mall. In fact, the Lincoln Road Diesel store is throwing a nightly happy hour from 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday and continuing for three nights with DJs, cocktails and retail therapy.
Not free but for a worthy cause is Bohemian Pentameter: A Fashionable SoBe Arts Renaissance Event from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday at the SoBe Institute of the Arts, 2100 Washington Ave. A minimum donation of $50 in advance or $60 at the door will get you renaissance music and Elizabethan theater as well as a fashion show by Calypso Bal Harbour. St. Barth meets Shakespeare: only on South Beach. There will be free cocktails, wines, hors d'oeuvres, desserts and a silent auction to benefit the stellar programs at the SoBe Institute of the Arts. E-mail events@sobearts.org or call 305-674-9220.
Over at 737 Washington Ave. is pinkroom, South Beach's first ``Eco and Female Friendly'' nightlife destination featuring two hidden VIP areas and a Female Concierge, a hot male model available to ``help remove stains on your frock or run out and get you a new pair of panty hose.'' Best of all, a portion of the profits go to breast cancer research. Men are completely welcome, of course.
And finally, it was, as we said, only a matter of time before promoters got their hands on the stellar rooftop lounge at Casale, 1800 Bay Rd., but at least it's in good hands every Friday as Edison Farrow channels the old days -- when Euphoria Fridays at Jade Lounge would pack in the boys across the street in the space now known as Beer and Burger Joint -- with Galaxy Fridays featuring tunes by DJ Milk. Doors open at 10 p.m.
