Co-owner of 8 Oz. Burger Bar arrested in fetus' death
It looks like co-owner of the popular 8 Oz. Burger Bar in South Beach Joshua Woodward has been dumped in Miami, after Los Angeles County police arrested him in connection with the death of a 13-week-old fetus, who was believed to be his biological child.
At a hearing Tuesday in L.A., prosecutors did not file charges against the 37-year-old restaurateur, whom police suspect of having caused the mother of the child to have a miscarriage.
Sources familiar with the case said that Woodward was suspected of placing an unspecified powder in the pregnant woman's vaginal area.
While no information was released on the pregnant woman's identity, the only girlfriend most people associated Woodward with was Miami writer Suzy Buckley, whose most recent activity on Facebook says she is no longer in a relationship.
Woodward, the former Table 8 partner, who also owns the original 8 Oz. in L.A., was taken into custody on Sunday by homicide detectives investigating the Oct. 19 miscarriage. He was then booked into a local jail in lieu of $2 million bail. It's unclear if he has been released following Tuesday's hearing.
The Miami Herald contacted Buckley, who clarified that she is not the mother-in-question nor does she know who the mother is. Buckley added that the woman is not Woodward's girlfriend and has only positive things to say about her ex.
"We were planning to get engaged soon and married,'' Buckley said. "We had a long, incredible and beautiful relationship, and he is loved and respected by so many people in the Miami community. These extensive allegations are obviously outlandish, but I have -- understandably -- ended the relationship.''
Rumor is Roy Black -- best known for William Kennedy Smith's acquittal on rape charges -- has been tapped as counsel.
