Reconnect with 50 years of Silver Knight winners

Some are doctors and lawyers, athletes and Oscar winners, dot-com behemoths and worldly diplomats. One's even a rocket scientist.

The oldest are near 70; the youngest are almost 20.

They are the Silver Knights, luminaries honored as high school seniors for their community service and academic excellence.

This year marks the Silver Knight Awards' 50th anniversary. The Miami Herald is honoring the milestone with a series of profiles to reconnect readers with past winners. Look for their stories each week in the Tropical Life section.

(The newest winners will be announced April 29 in Broward County and May 20 in Miami-Dade County.)

''We're obviously very proud of the program,'' said David Landsberg, president and publisher of the Miami Herald Media Company. ``For us, it's a labor of love.''
