The couple also have 50 pieces on display at their Aspen home, and at any given time have another 20 to 30 pieces on loan to museums across the world.
Their Wynwood exhibition space, World Class Boxing, gives the public a chance to see part of their collection, for free.
The collection is mostly young artists, just starting out.
''We want artists to have the opportunity to do things that they couldn't otherwise do,'' Scholl said. ``That's what this space is about.''
IN GOOD TASTE
He discovered his second passion, wine making, seven years ago.
He and Richard Betts, his current business partner, were in the mountains in Aspen looking for chanterelle mushrooms.
As they talked, Betts, a master sommelier in Aspen, told Scholl about a project he was working on in the wine world.
Scholl said that's great, but prodded Betts to find out what he really wanted to do.
Betts wanted to make Grenache in Australia.
Scholl was skeptical at first, but a blind taste test sold him on the idea.
The friends paired their respective expertise, Betts' in wine making and Scholl's business acumen, to start the company, Betts & Scholl.
They make wines from grapes in Barossa Valley, Australia; Napa, Calif.; Hermitage, France; and Friuli, Italy.
The company buys grapes from local farmers and then works in collaboration with local wine makers to create the wine.
Scholl's about to make his sixth trip to Australia to harvest to grapes, some from 100-year-old vines.
For Scholl, it's the perfect marriage of two loves. On the inside, the wine; on the outside, labels featuring seven different contemporary artists.
His advice for future Silver Knight winners: do as he has and follow your passions.
''I may do it in excess,'' he said. ``I follow my passion in art being a collector. And I follow my passion in wine having started this wine business.''
