Wrestling legend Albano dies

Speaking on behalf of the Albano family, Wrestler's Rescue is sad to report that Captain Lou Albano has died at his home in New York. He was 76.

Wrestler's Rescue e-mailed that Albano carved his niche in pro wrestling history throughhis gift of gab, noted by former World Wide Wrestling Federation champion Bruno Sammartino.

Wearing his trademark rubber bands and Hawaiian shirts, Albano enjoyed a rich 42-year career as a wrestler, manager and personality, most notably in the WWWF/World Wrestling Federation. He is a former WWWF U.S. tag team champ. As a manager, he led 15 different tag teams to championship gold and also guided four singles champions.

(AP) -- ``Captain'' Lou Albano, who became one of the most recognized professional wrestling personalities of the 1980s after appearing in Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun music video, died Wednesday. He was 76.

Albano, whose real name was Louis Vincent Albano, died in Westchester County in suburban New York, said Dawn Marie, founder of Wrestlers Rescue, an organization that helps raise money for the healthcare of retired wrestlers. He died of natural causes, Marie said.

World Wrestling Entertainment called him one of the company's ``most popular and charismatic legends.''

Beautiful People help beautifully

TNA stars Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, The Beautiful People, represent a stellar TNA Knockouts division inside and outside the six-sided ring.

Baby Doll helps Dr. Death

Considered one of pro wrestling's first high-profile divas, Baby Doll of Four Horsemen fame in NWA/WCW helped pave the way for women to have mainstream acceptance in wrestling.

Baby Doll recently donated a ring worn blouse to Wrestlers Rescue, auctioned on eBay with a starting bid $49.99 -- to assist wrestling great Dr. Death Steve Williams who is battling cancer.

Williams is also a former football and wrestling standout at Oklahoma University. Place a bid by visiting the official Wrestlers Rescue website at wrestlersrescue.org. There is also a chance to win a signed Jim Ross cowboy hat and more.
