Even when schools never spoke with him this past fall, Becker continued to take things in his own hands, contacting programs such as Lafayette, Furman and Georgetown.

OTHER OPTIONS

While many schools have already started fill out their commitment list, others such as D1 programs like Akron, Baylor, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Clemson, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kent State, Miami of Ohio, New Mexico State, Ohio University, Rice, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Tulane and UCF haven't added a quarterback to the current class.

There are also 1AA programs such as Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Elon, Georgia Southern, James Madison, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Villanova, Western Carolina, Wofford and William & Mary that also failed to add a quarterback in this current class.

While Becker is one of the high profile athletes who has slipped through the cracks, he certainly isn't the only one from South Florida that colleges have yet to take notice of.

One time Dr. Krop linebacker Ryan Beres (6-2, 200) has also slid by the radar screen at Miami Country Day.

All Beres did this year was register eight sacks, 116 tackles and blocked three kicks. His 4.0 (weighted) grade point average has opened the way for schools such as Tufts and Amherst, with Duke taking a look while he waits on the University of Pennsylvania as well.

While many watched the Dade-Broward game last week at Traz Powell Stadium there were 100 athletes competing for both sides. In that contest, which showcased some of the best talent in the region, there were 77 players who had not yet received a scholarship.

TOP TALENT

Among those included Columbus safety Jamal Woldgoose, Booker T. Washington quarterback Torrance Moise and linebacker Keenan Frazier. There was also Pace offensive lineman Vincent Brown and Archbishop Carroll defensive lineman David Ribero. Broward County standouts Travis Reynolds, Cardinal Gibbons quarterback Chris Schrippa, Stranahan defensive end Nelsy Marcellon, South Broward lineman Ashley Bullock and Everglades nose tackle Jovan Gopie had no plans for signing day as well.

Don't forget that we are always looking to help our area recruits for the current Class of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. All you have to do is send a DVD and information about the athlete to: Larry Blustein, P.O. Box 3181, Hallandale Beach, Fl. 33009.

Larry Blustein is co-host of the Miami Dolphins Gridiron Show every Thursday evening from 9-10 on WQAM (560 AM). Have a comment? E-mail lblustein@MiamiHerald.com.
