The Cowboys added another Bull to their defense with the team's second first-round draft pick in Saturday's NFL Draft.
Dallas selected South Florida defensive back Mike Jenkins with the 25th overall selection.
Jenkins, who became the first USF player ever drafted in the first round, joins former Bulls standout Anthony Henry (fourth round, 2001) in the Cowboys' secondary.
The Cowboys traded up three spots to select Jenkins. Dallas got Seattle's pick at No. 25 and gave the Seahawks their fifth- and seventh-round picks.
With the NFC's fourth-best pass defense last season -- a unit that held opponents to 213.1 yards per game -- Dallas seems to have gotten stronger with the selection of Jenkins.
''Mike has ball speed, closing speed, and he's a good tackler,'' USF defensive coordinator Wally Burnham told The Tampa Tribune. ``He can play physical. He can play the cat-and-mouse game. He has tons of talent.
``And I don't think he's as good now as he's going to be at the next level.''
In a draft filled with plenty of high-quality defensive backs, Jenkins became the fourth defensive back picked, and his draft position eclipsed that of Bulls linebacker Kawika Mitchell, who was picked by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 47 overall pick in 2003.
Among defensive backs, Jenkins was taken after Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 20. Tampa Bay had been linked to possibly selecting Jenkins, whose Bulls play their home games at the Bucs' Raymond James Stadium.
Jenkins told The Tampa Tribune that he was expecting to be drafted by Tampa Bay after he had lunch with Bucs general manager Bruce Allen on Thursday.
Allen told Jenkins that if he was available when Tampa Bay picked at No. 20, Jenkins would become a Buccaneer.
'[Allen] said, `Definitely, if you're there at No. 20, we'll take you,' '' Jenkins said. ``I was definitely surprised. I was disappointed [about not being drafted by his hometown team].''
Troy's Leodis McKelvin (Buffalo Bills, 11th overall selection) and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Arizona Cardinals, 16th overall) were the first two defensive backs drafted.
With their first selection at No. 22 overall, the Cowboys picked Arkansas running back Felix Jones, part of a backfield that included Darren McFadden, who went to the Oakland Raiders at No. 4 overall.
